My wife and I asked John from J&L building for a quote (one of many) for converting our carport to a new room. We immediately felt that John knew what he was on about as not only did he do the quote, but his experience in the industry helped shape the best options for the room that met our stated needs. He was able to explain the best options using the newest technology that fit into our budget.
Whilst this quote was not necessarily the cheapest it made the most sense and included everything we possibly needed to do including the work through council. John was very patient whilst approval was provided and once ready, the building started as soon as the materials were available.
The end to end process took the right period of time as promised and minimally impacted the household whilst it was being built. After discovering extensive white-ant damage to our investment property in the Adelaide Hills, we set about looking for a building company to help us with the repairs. Our association with J & L Building & Maintenance Pty Ltd was necessitated following a vehicle impact with our home on 8th Sept 2009. The company won the tender for the rebuilding process. We cannot speak highly enough of the professionalism with which John Semmler and his team facilitated the project. Right from the initial meeting to discuss the details of the contract and work schedule we found him to be very personable and accommodating, at the same time, working within the terms and conditions described by the insurance company. Throughout the entire process, John kept in regular contact with us by phone or SMS and regularly attended onsite to check on progress. We were at all times kept informed about timelines, changes and delays that might have occurred, as was the case during the November heatwave that delayed the brickwork. To facilitate completion on time, and to secure our home during this vulnerable stage, he arranged a gang of bricklayers to come on the same day. It was obvious too, that there was regular and effective communication between john, his tradespeople and the insurance company because jobs were well coordinated and always happened on time. The work ethic and demeanour of workers from his company also indicated to us that John has high expectations of his staff. The quality of workmanship in all aspects of the project would also indicate that he takes pride in the work he provides through his building company. We are very happy with all of the work carried out on our laundry & bathroom extension and renovation. All the tradesman we dealt with were skilled and performed work of high quality. All were friendly and helpful throughout the entire the process. I contacted J & L Building & Maintenance Pty Ltd to make necessary repairs and remedies to the existing carport, which incurred serious damage, from flooding gutters. John assessed the situation, provided recommendations to the work required and at the same time listened to my requests to additional work that I wish to have completed. He would regularly be in contact by email or by phone to ensure a comprehensive understanding with regards to the quote, queries or requests I may have. The need to have these repairs done in a timely fashion and having to coordinate work around another contractor, John provided professional trades people to undertake the tasks at hand in the time frame that he nominated to complete all the work. His team of hand-picked professional trade’s people were there to start the repairs on time each morning, they were friendly, approachable and their workmanship I would recommend. They were also thorough in cleaning up after their tasks were completed at the end of each day. Each morning John would arrive early to introduce those trade’s people that would be tackling the tasks at hand for that day. We would have an informal discussion with his contractors and myself, verifying, relaying and ensuring the work that was needed to make the necessary repairs. The repairs to the carport has given me peace of mind in the knowledge that the work that has been completed to the upmost professional standard and structural requirements. This has restored my faith in finding a reputable company, that is prepared to tackle residential repairs and that takes pride in the work undertaken by his team of professional work men. As a result I recommended to my mum, to contact J & L Building & Maintenance Pty Ltd to request a quote (from Steve), to underpin and make necessary repairs to an existing veranda. She is truly pleased with the professionalism, the repairs made, the cleaning up after the completion of the work and as she says “It makes the place look brighter and fresher”.
